While putting together a short list of useful links for first time and veterans of Minecraft, I remembered a site I stumbled upon a while back called Miners Need Cool Shoes.
The site is basically like an online version of the popular custom skin editor called SkinEdit. While you have to download and run SkinEdit to be able to use it, with MNCS it’s all in browser. It can be laggy at times because of this but it’s a neat way to get right into creating a custom skin without the fear of downloading something harmful to your computer.
You can even enter the name of a friend or yourself and edit the skin you are currently wearing. If you see a custom skin you like on someone, you can grab that skin and edit it. While this is less than “cool” because you’re taking someone elses work, MNSC doesn’t import the entire skin so you won’t get much in terms of details except the clothing. This is good for those who want the base of the skin, but don’t want the whole shebang. It’s also good for custom skin makers to know their entire body of work can’t be grabbed wholly.

My custom skin loaded into mncs. As you can see, not all (but a good percentage of stuff) is visible.
By far the coolest part of MNCS is their armory. Basically it’s a Minecraft version of the normal customization screen of any game where you can choose a face, shirt, pants and skin template to customize your character bit by bit. This is helpful for those who don’t feel they can create a custom skin from scratch, but still want one. It’s also helpful for quick skin making and generally it’s just fun to play around with!
Just like on the home screen you can enter a name and customize it that way as well. in addition to being able tp create custom skins, there is a wide variety of available and easily downloadable skins ready to be uploaded to your minecraft account. I would have to say that so far this is the best website for custom skins, though its index of skins may be small in comparison to the Skindex, the ability to create your own skin and modify others so easily makes this a good website to bookmark. Though I don’t like the idea anyone can take my skin and use it and modify it, it’s still a cool website.
So visit Miners Need Cool Shoes and get to making some awesome skins!
